I own an 86 Jayco 1008 pop-up and the hitch size is 2".

Science Teacher is an idiot. You can only use the ball that the camper coupler is sized for. It should be stamped on the top of the coupler, right above where the ball fits in. If you cannot find it stamped on the coupler, first try a 2 inch ball. If the coupler fits on the ball, it is the right size. If the trailer tongue will not drop down into place when exactly aligned, then go to the 1 7/8" ball. If your camper is very large, there is even a chance that it needs a 2 1/4" ball. This is unlikely on a pop-up.What size tow ball to pull 1986 jayco popup camper?
As stated, the required size will be stamped on the ball receiver. It will most likely be a 1 7/8" or a 2" It will not be a 2 1/4" since there is no such thing. It is highly unlikely that it will require a 2 5/16 as those are used for very heavy trailers and pop up campers are not heavy. Just make sure you match up the ball with the trailer hitch or you could lose your trailer.
