What is the best type of four wheel drive to tow a jayco swan caravan?

Okay my dad has a pajero and we have a jayco swan that we use to go away camping but the pajero is doin a crappy job of towing it. Also the pajero uses up alot of gas like you can only travel 250km and then you have to fill up again whereas its supposibly suppose to take you around 600km berfore the tank is empty.

So my dad has been wanting to get a new car and he was looking at getting a nisson patrol again so it wont cost as much for fuel and it easily tow the caravan.

So does anyone have any suggestions on what type of car would be good for towing the caravan? What is the best type of four wheel drive to tow a jayco swan caravan?
The rule of thumb on this is to have a towing vehicle

of equal, or greater weight than the towed vehicle, and

to have a towing package on the tow vehicle.

It doesn't matter if it is four wheel drive, or two wheel

drive if the tow vehicle is heavy enough, and has a

large enough engine to take the strain. I have seen

many try to get by cheap on gas when towing, but

all they end up doing is getting too small, and too

light a vehicle for the weight being towed. All that

does is to ruin the towing vehicle.

To get the best fuel mileage towing you would have

to have a diesel engine. Towing anything always

causes higher fuel consumption, and if a lot of

towing is done, the diesel will give the best mileage

with the least amount of effort.
