My google chrome looks a little different than it did a while ago
the buttons look different and the star for favoriting is on the right

Yes. Chrome is self-updating. Google just pushed out Chrome 6 to everyone.
If you're interested, Google actually has 4 different versions of Chrome out at once- the stable version (updated once every couple months), the beta version (updated once a month), the developer version (updated once a week or so), and the canary version (updated about once a day). I wouldn't use the Canary version- it's too easy for something to break- but if you want to switch to the beta or developer version, you'll get to see and comment on new features before they're rolled out to everyone else.
