Those are sit down restaurants where the server takes your order at your table, you get menus, %26amp; you pay after you eat.
Fast food is where you pay first then take your meal to the table or sometimes go drivethru.

steak n shake often has a drive thru.. they are totally fast food.. as for the others, i guess they consider casual chains to be fast food..Brak wants to know, "Why do people mention sit down restaurants as fast food restaurants"?
maybe it's because of the fat/sugar content of foods in both types of restaurants.
Don't know, but for the record, our Steak N Shake here in Ohio had a drivethru.Brak wants to know, "Why do people mention sit down restaurants as fast food restaurants"?
You answer your own Q.

I don't know. In my book, they are two different types of food. While I would not consider Chilli's and Applebee's to be fine dining...they certainly are a lot more classy than McDonalds.Brak wants to know, "Why do people mention sit down restaurants as fast food restaurants"?
A lot of the "sit down" restaurants also have "pick up" service even though they do not have a "drive thru" window. You may be surprised to learn just how much "pick up" business they actually do.
they have to pay waiters to bring you your food, and it takes a long time to cook the food. so fast food, is done so fast that you can bring it to your seat and they dont want to pay people do bring it to you, so you have to do it yourself. do you understand what i just wrote? oh. i dont eather.
Probably cos they're all big franchises.. and cos food comes out pretty fast..
Most of those places on top are probably faster than
Chik-fil-a. KFC and Subway and Sonic are considerably slower than other fastfood chains. Jack in the Box is usually slower too.
How is Steak %26amp; Shake any different from those on the bottom? It has a drive-thru and that's how most folks get food from there.
I see how you differentiated between the two, but in my experience, restaurants with drive-thrus are generally called "fast food". Chilis and TGI Fridays aren't much faster than a Red Lobster or Carrabba's. The last two aren't usually mentioned as fast food.
I guess all those are faster than a steakhouse or more formal restaurants like Brennan's or a French bistro.
There should be two categories of fast; fastfood (drive-thru) and rapid service (sit down only). And then luxurious or fancy food.
